As Changemakers, we often have these values that we believe in but we don’t know how to put them into action. In this episode, we dive further into our Macro Micro Mini Guide. This is a tool that helps you have a Value-Driven Life by naming your values, determining the micro-actions you need to take to live out your values, and breaking those actions down into mini-steps.

Our bonus strategy is all about being more efficient professionally. We dig into breaking down your projects into smaller tasks.

Macro Values + Micro Actions + Mini Steps

So we have these core values that we believe in but often we don’t know how to put them into action. This is a tool to help you do that. It’s a tool to help you have a Value-Driven Life. Here’s our Macro Micro Mini Guide to help guide you through this process.

You begin with your larger, macro value. What is something you believe in deeply? This is often a single word or short phrase. Then from there, you chose a micro action that would embody you living out this specific value. Now we’ll break down that action even further into mini-steps. What is a small, completely doable step you can take TODAY in the direction of that micro action?

See It In Action

Macro Value: Space

Micro Action: I want 30 minutes of “just me time” in the middle of my day.

You might be already thinking, there’s NO WAY I can attain my micro action. Yeah, it sounds great in theory, but it’s near impossible to achieve. Take a deep breath - that’s where the mini step comes in.

Mini-Step: I’ll start with 5 minutes of “just me time” during my day.

Mini steps move you in the direction of your micro action without completely overwhelming you. These mini steps need to be so small and doable that you have no excuse not to do them. Then you can gain momentum, engrain them as habits, and continue to build on these mini-steps until you get to that micro action.

Remember! Pause and celebrate the mini-steps along the way! Changing habits and mindsets is extremely difficult, and you’re taking the action to change. Celebrate that!

How To Be Efficient

Break Your Projects Down Into Smaller Tasks

Starting a new project is always daunting. There’s a ton of work to do, and the finish line is barely visible. Since the reward of this big accomplishment is so far away, it almost seems like it’s not even worth starting. It’s easy to slug through work when you don’t feel a sense of accomplishment every day.

Harvard Business Review analyzed over 12,000 diary entries of knowledge workers and discovered that a sense of progress, no matter how big or small, was the most important factor in boosting emotions, motivation, and perceptions during the workday. And the more frequently people experienced progress, the more productive they were.

So, if you break down projects into small tasks, you can achieve a minor goal or even multiple goals in one day instead of one major goal in a few days, weeks, or even months. Constantly feeling a sense of progress is what boosts your morale and productivity in the long term. Small wins help you work faster.

Final Thoughts

That’s a wrap on part 2 of our series on living a Value-Drive life. Take these steps slowly and with intention. Finding your groove and really landing on the values that are true to you takes time. Embrace the messy process!
